Rushmoor Borough lies in the heart of the Blackwater Valley, a successful and vibrant commercial region extending from Farnham in the south towards Bracknell in the north. Rushmoor largely comprises the key towns of Aldershot and Farnborough. Aldershot is world famous as the home of the British Army. Farnborough hosts the biennial International Farnborough Air Show, held on the site of the birthplace of flying and aeronautical research in Britain.

The Borough has a population of 88,000 (including Military personnel and dependants) and covers an area of 3,900 hectares in North East Hampshire. The eastern border of the Borough is the River Blackwater, and beyond it lies the county of Surrey. The eastern side of Rushmoor Borough is predominately urban in character, whilst the western side includes significant areas of open space and woodland.

The area benefits from excellent communication links to London, other parts of the UK and beyond. Farnborough and Aldershot are situated within minutes of the M3 and close to the M4 motorway. The Borough's two main line stations provide frequent services to London (Waterloo) and North Camp station provides a direct link to Gatwick Airport. Rushmoor also benefits from the economic advantage of having a centre for business aviation at Farnborough Aerodrome. In addition Heathrow and Gatwick are within easy reach.

Rushmoor is home to a number of major employers including a cluster of nationally important aerospace research and development companies based around the Defence Evaluation Research Agency, together with computer science and telecommunications companies. Major employers located in the Borough include; BAe Systems, British Telecom, CSC Computer Sciences, IBM, Nokia, and of course the Ministry of Defence.

Rushmoor has proved attractive to inward investors and has scope for further development. In particular the 47.5 hectare factory site at Farnborough Aerodrome, owned by Slough Estates, is allocated for employment development. The area also benefits from a varied workforce, including highly skilled technical staff.

The Borough has an excellent quality of environment. The River Blackwater and Basingstoke Canal run through the Borough providing magnificent areas for wildlife and just to the south lies the Hogs Back escarpment, part of the North Downs. The Borough also boasts a range of leisure and entertainment facilities including a recreation centre, open air pool complex, golf course, cinema and theatre.
