Hampshire County Council views broadband technology as key to the future economic competitiveness of Hampshire. It has invested heavily in the Hampshire Public Service Network (HPSN), which connects public access points in schools, libraries and Local Authority offices across the County by high speed broadband networks.

It has also led a contract to deliver the South East Grid for Learning to support the use of broadband in education.

Hampshire County Council’s Economic Development Office is also leading a three year partnership programme to support business development and e-commerce. Through the Hampshire Broadband Forum, the Council works with public and private sector partners to increase the quality and availability of broadband services. Driving forward broadband in Hampshire can benefit increased home-working and reduce pressures on the transport infrastructure.

Employees of Hampshire County Council will also shortly be able to benefit from a subsidised scheme of computer leasing known as the Home Computer Initiative.
