Bandwidth

The amount of data (information) that can be transmitted and received by an Internet connection, e.g. rather like a water pipe, the larger the pipe the more water that can pass through it. The maximum bandwidth through a dial up phone line connection is 56 kilobits per second (56kbps), for a broadband connection it is at least 512kbps.

BER

Bit Error Rate - the number of bit errors in the data stream. An example is 1 in 104. This means 1 errored bit in 10,000

Bps

Bits-per-second - rate of data transfer between computers or modems

Broadband (BB)

A high speed digital internet connection which features bandwidth in excess of 512kbs and which is ‘always on’.

Browser

Program that allows you to view web pages and explore the internet

BW

Bandwidth - refers to how fast data flows through the path that it travels to your computer; it's usually measured in kilobits, megabits or gigabits per second.

Byte

A byte - is the basis for measurement of most computer data as multiples of the byte value. A "megabyte" is one million bytes or eight million bits or a "gigabyte" is one billion bytes or eight billion bits
