Midas Marine & Joinery is a well established boat building and joinery business that was born over 31 years ago. The last year has been particularly busy for us as we have achieved a long held ambition to own our own premises. We have purchased and refurbished an industrial site to fully meet our particular requirements and are now operating at full capacity.

Midas which was started by Ian and Rick, the two partners, has been steadily built up over the years and employs seven people, not including themselves, on the boatbuilding and joinery areas of the business.

We feel the installation of broadband has enabled us to carry out more wide ranging and, therefore, effective research on the web for the marine side, which consists of the project management and production of the REVENGER range of RIBS. We also research, price compare and buy equipment involved on the joinery side and for property refurbishment and maintenance, which is a new area for us. Bev, the Office Manager, has found it very helpful to be able to check out sites on the web which offer advice on the many and various areas involved in running a business now.

Communication with both clients and suppliers is becoming more common by email due to the 'always on' feel of broadband. Suppliers have also been able to send us design ideas using very clever programmes that allow you to look at things from all angles, which will ultimately cut down the time it take for new ideas to become reality. Sometimes we have been able to email photographs from/to clients/suppliers which has helped to solve problems quickly and effectively because as they say - a picture is worth a thousand words! The phone bill has also gone down - which has to be a plus!
