The Astonishing Impact of Broadband - Case Study
Written by Chris Brummell (6 Dec 2004)
The Astonishing Impact of Broadband

Brummell Associates was established in 1991, long before the advent of affordable high-speed data connection. In 1999, we moved from our office in Basingstoke to a converted office in Farleigh Wallop.

ISDN was available from day one, but the distance from the exchange meant a relatively low bandwidth. Unfortunately, we were outside the ADSL range until the last couple of months, at which point we switched immediately to broadband.

The impact has been astonishing. We have seen an immediate benefit. During this period, we were rolling out an XP Migration eLearning project for Interbrew. The deadline was very short, but we have been able to transfer updates and monitor the live system. Previously, this would have been achieved by driving to Luton or Sheffield. The project was so successful, we have been short-listed by the World of Learning Conference and Exhibition (Online Solution of the Year Award) and the Institute of IT Training (e-Learning Project of the Year). I have no doubt this would not have happened without broadband.

I am expecting a similar impact on other projects for Rolls Royce Aero Engines and Leeds Teaching Hospital.

We are seeing reduced telecom costs (from ISDN), reduced travel time and costs, faster project turn-around, improved research capabilities and lower courier costs.

It’s fantastic!
